The Participants

The gathering of a focus group for these sessions began with the distribution of a questionnaire (http://www.regossip.com/questionnaire.html). 26 people filled out the questionnaire. The results from these questionnaires were tabulated and 6 people from differing profiles were asked to participate in the card sorting process. This focus group was made up of people from a variety of; age ranges, professions, gaming experience, and communication technology preferences. However, we were restricted by scheduling and location.

"NR": Female 15-20 yrs. University student in the area of interactive arts.This participant uses the internet daily, owns a cellular phone, uses icq, email, has virtual relationships, participates in computer games, and likes to gossip. Her preferred forms of communication are; the telephone over all, for social communication the cell phone, and for business communication email.

"HL": Male 25-35 yrs. Undergraduate degree in psychology. Current occupation; university student in the area of interactive arts. This participant uses the internet daily, prefers email for all his communication, uses icq, has virtual relationships, plays computer and online games, and likes to gossip.

"TD": Male 25-35 yrs. Doctoral degree in computer science. Current occupation; university professor.This participant almost never uses the internet, uses email for most of his communication, has virtual relationships, plays online and computer games, uses chat rooms, and likes to gossip.

"CG": Female 25-35 yrs. Masters degree in English literature. Current occupation; learning support associate. This participant uses the internet daily, uses the phone for all communication save business where she uses email, has virtual relationships, plays computer games, and does not like to gossip.

"OM": Male 25-35 yrs. University student in the area of interactive arts. Current profession; waiter and toolset developer.This participant uses the internet daily, has a cell phone, uses the phone for business communication, uses his cell phone for personal and social communication, has virtual relationships, uses icq, and likes to gossip.

"JT": Male, age undisclosed. Undergraduate degree in design. Current occupation; Interact designer.This participant uses the internet daily, uses the phone for personal and social communication, uses email for business communication, has virtual relationships, plays computer games, uses icq, and likes to gossip.
